Clinical Practice
Dr Matt Trinder is a general surgeon with a focus on colorectal surgery. He provides comprehensive, patient-centred care for a wide range of colorectal, anorectal and general surgical conditions. His focus includes colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders and minimally invasive colorectal surgery. Dr Trinder consults privately at Hollywood Private Hospital and holds public appointments at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital. His practice includes the management of bowel (colon and rectal) cancer, diverticular disease, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He also treats pelvic floor disorders such as rectal prolapse, intussusception, obstructive defaecation and faecal incontinence. Dr Trinder has expertise in the treatment of common anorectal conditions, including haemorrhoids, anal fissures, perianal abscesses, anal fistulae and skin tags. As an accredited endoscopist, he performs colonoscopy and gastroscopy for screening, surveillance and diagnostic purposes. In addition to his colorectal practice, Dr Trinder provides a broad general surgical service, including hernia repair and gallbladder surgery. He is committed to using contemporary surgical techniques, including minimally invasive and robotic approaches where appropriate, to support optimal patient outcomes and recovery.
Background & Training
Dr Trinder graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2011 and completed his general surgical training across metropolitan and tertiary hospitals throughout WA. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2023. During his specialist training, he also completed a Master of Surgery (ChM) through the University of Edinburgh, focusing on inflammatory bowel disease. Following fellowship, Dr Trinder undertook a two-year colorectal fellowship through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ), receiving advanced training in robotic surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders and complex colorectal surgery.
Dr Trinder is committed to providing evidence-based surgical care, working closely with patients, referring practitioners and multidisciplinary teams to deliver individualised treatment and achieve the best possible outcomes. Following specialist qualification, Dr Trinder undertook a highly regarded two-year fellowship through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). This advanced subspecialty training provided extensive experience in colorectal surgery, robotic surgical techniques, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders.
