About Dr Andrew Tan, Urological Surgeon
Dr Andrew Tan is a urological surgeon with more than 25 years of clinical experience, specialising in robotic, laparoscopic and minimally invasive urological surgery. He is one of the most experienced HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) surgeons in Australia, and is Director and co-founder of Perth Urology Clinic, the largest urology group practice in Western Australia, where his clinical interests include prostate cancer, benign prostate enlargement (BPH), kidney surgery, and endourology (minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones and other urinary tract conditions).
Andrew is a graduate of the University of Otago Medical School in New Zealand, and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Urology in 2002. He went on to complete fellowship training at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and has an extensive record of published research, including contributions to major clinical trials and leading textbooks in his field. He remains actively involved in surgical education, teaching and mentoring the next generation of urologists both in Australia and internationally and continues to participate in clinical research as a trial investigator.
Beyond his clinical work, Andrew is involved in leadership roles across the urology sector and healthcare governance, including with the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) and the University of Notre Dame's medical undergraduate program. He holds a Graduate qualification from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), reflecting his interest in strong governance across both healthcare and business settings.
Outside the clinic, Andrew co-hosts Tackle Talk Men's Health, a podcast dedicated to improving men's health awareness and education in the wider community.
